A mainstay of the Austin music scene for the past two years, local singer/songwriter Kacy Crowley finally receives some richly-deserved attention with a major-label debut. Anchorless offers twelve refined tunes ranging from the heartfelt confessional to the catchy roots-based anthem for the cultural drifter, radio friendly acoustic rock singing a slightly different tune. Crowley expresses such a sincere depth of emotion while offering the intimacy of the acoustic-based sound, eliciting a cheery hop along attitude despite the cognitive nature of some of the lyrics. The twang of an acoustic string rings at just the right moment and Crowley reminds the world that she started as nothing more than a rebellious teenager "born with the sweet taste to be wild."

Anchorless chronicles Kacy Crowley's sometimes difficult travels down the bumpy road from a small Connecticut town to Los Angeles and then New York before eventually landing her in the comfortable Austin music scene. Through all of her songs she stretches an unquestionable thread of movement so indicative of her migratory lifestyle. Certainly she has left an indelible impression on both the Austin music industry and fans alike, quietly making a name for herself with dedicated persistence and colorful reflections of a transient life in the singer/songwriter vein. Be forewarned that the female singer/songwriter categorization is somewhat misleading, as Crowley receives support from a talented band playing a number of nontraditional instruments. Stepping up to the challenge of taming her rebellious instincts, Kacy Crowley settles them through earnest, poetically charged compositions, candid observations from the fringes of American life.
